Why Dickens?
Stories made for painting
Charles Dickens is my favourite author. His novels are rich with eccentric personalities, crowded streets, warm interiors and dramatic contrasts between darkness and hope.
When I paint these scenes, I draw on the atmosphere of Victorian illustration and cinema while creating my own imagined London. Snow, lamplight and colour help the characters feel as though they have stepped from the page and into a living world.
